Raised until the age of 17 in the suburbs of Boston, R.W. Murphy moved to Florida in 1968. He turned 18 at the high point of the Viet Nam War. In 1969 he began college at Ole Miss on a U.S. Navy scholarship. After being commissioned, he was a a ship driver and held top level security clearances, including a code word level SCI pertaining to a specific mission. Although he held numerous jobs in the Navy, he was most highly trained in Anti-Submarine Warfare, Operations, Intelligence and Nuclear Weapons, all of which find a way into his stories.  He has worked throughout the world. However, his pithiest stories describe the culture of his adopted Deep South.
